About

The fascinating remains of the 13th-century Greyfriars Friary and Leper Chapel at St. James Church, Dunwich, provide the inspiration for this stimulating and motivational, multifaceted cultural project. Chronicles of Greyfriars aims is to engage people with the rich heritage of the Dunwich site, using a combination of creative and fun techniques, with a focus on its wonderful geological and biological diversity.

The project combines environmental heritage, creative arts, mental health recovery and wellbeing into a range of activities, including: workshops, courses, pop-up art days, environmental heritage events, heritage consultancy, children’s creativity days and training for project-based assistants, geologists, environmental educators, artists and volunteers.

Chronicles of Greyfriars is run by Suffolk-based community organisation, Art Branches, and operated in partnership with the Dunwich Greyfriars Trust and Dunwich Museum. The National Lottery Heritage Fund has kindly provided funding. Courses, workshops, events and consultancy are led by qualified, experienced geologists, environmental educators and artists.

Project-related news and events are announced on our Facebook page and/or the Events page on this site.

Bespoke Environmental Heritage Days, Training & Consultancy

Continuing the success of previous courses, workshops and events, we also offer bespoke environmental heritage days (group-oriented), training and consultancy. Combining expert knowledge of the site’s heritage, the environment and creative arts, we provide stimulating opportunities to learn and to improve wellbeing, confidence and skills in supported groups, developing self worth, connection, autonomy and belief.

For further information, please get in touch via one of the methods on our ‘Contact’ page and take a look at some of the fascinating and informative guides on the ‘Resources’ page.
